Ranch Dressing....

You can't see it very well in this picture, but last night Kaden had ranch dressing with his dinner. He got some on his hands and then rubbed around his eyes and on his forehead. When I wiped it off, it left a nice red mark everywhere the ranch had been. I guess this means he is allergic to ranch dressing, or something in ranch dressing. It was gone pretty quickly and it didn't seem to bother him. If you know anything about this, please let me in on any information. I am new to all this allergy stuff. He does have exzema pretty bad on his legs and feet as well, and I am pretty sure he is allergic to grass. :)

All I know is that you need to make sure nothing he eats makes his throat close off. Keep Children's Benadryl close by and if he ever has an allergic reaction that makes his throat itch or he says he can't swallow, make sure he gets Benadryl. You can also give it if his face swells and doesn't go back down. You can have kids tested for allergies (I think they usually do a scratch test) is you are really worried. They will test his skin with a whole bunch of different things and judge the reaction he gets to determine his allergies. But I'm not sure how old he needs to be. My nephew had one when he was very young b/c of his eczema and family history.

I know sometimes when kids eat something and have a reaction the next time they have it the reaction is usually worse so make sure he doesn't have ranch again without talking to his doc and look over the ingredients in the ranch just to be aware of them. have you ever put anything on his skin for eczema? there are a few creams that work pretty good. I would think about an allergy test as well.

Katie, my sister Melanie(a nurse) reads your blog sometimes and wanted me to pass on that he is probably not allergic - whenever her son Aidan eats ranch on a salad and the dressing sits on the outside of his mouth for too long it will cause his skin to turn red, but after it is washed off - the redness will go away quickly. And since Kaden has eczema his skin is already sensitive - but she doesn't think you have to worry about an allergy.

The easy way to solve this is take Jordon and strip him down and then cover him in ranch. Leave it there for quite some time and then wash him off. Check and see if he has any red reaction any where. If he does then it means you have nothing to worry about because he eats enough ranch that there is no way he is allergic to it. If he doesn't have any red then that means don't put any more on kadens face. Problem solved. Glad I could help. : )

I don't know much. But my niece, she's 1 1/2 had the same thing happen to her about a month ago and then about a week ago. Strange!

That used to happen to me when mayonaise from my sandwich would get on my face. It would always swell up, but I could still eat it and be fine. Weird, huh?

Funny that you blogged about this because just TONIGHT Vance was eating carrot sticks and ranch dressing. Drew and I were astounded at the severe reaction he had all over his face where the ranch had touched his skin. Now that you've had the same issue with Kaden I am definitely going to investigate. This cannot be a coincidence.
